Dean Brooks is One of Maryland's Top 100 Women

PRINCESS ANNE, MD - Dean of the School of Agricultural and Natural Sciences, Dr. Carolyn Brooks has been recognized as one of Maryland's Top 100 Women.

She is in illustrious company. Other honorees this year are U.S. Senator Barbara A. Mikulski and Maryland delegates Addie Eckardt, Sheila Hixson and Kathleen Dumais. UMES President Dr. Thelma B. Thompson was named to the list in 2004.

Brooks responded to the news with characteristic humility. "When I look at the names of those selected," she said, "I'm in awe that I could be among them. What an honor! I have so many friends, colleagues and family who are hard-working, dedicated, caring and giving people, making so many valuable contributions, that I just try to keep up."

The distinction, now in its 12th year, is designed to recognize the outstanding achievements of professional women who live or work in Maryland. It is bestowed by The Daily Record, a Baltimore-based business newspaper. Honorees are selected both for their professional success and for contributions bettering Maryland's communities.

"I am truly fortunate to be recognized in this way and share this honor with those who are inspirational to me," Brooks said.

This year's recipients will be honored at an awards ceremony 5 p.m. Monday, May 7, at the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall in Baltimore.
