PRINCESS ANNE, MD - (Jan. 24, 2012) - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore's annual Interfaith Prayer Breakfast reaches a milestone in 2012. It marks the 10th year for the event that also serves as the gateway to homecoming weekend festivities.

Former President Thelma B. Thompson organized the first breakfast in 2003 to strengthen the relationship between UMES and its loyal friends and neighbors - including the local faith community. Interim President Mortimer Neufville eagerly embraced the activity, which he said he's learned is viewed as "an important and popular event … on our academic calendar."

The Rev. Haywood A. Robinson III, pastor of the People's Community Baptist Church in Silver Spring, will be the keynote speaker. Neufville, who recommended Robinson, describes him as a dynamic clergyman known for delivering an uplifting message.

This year's breakfast will again be in the university's Student Services Center on Friday, Feb. 24 beginning at 7:30 a.m. Tickets are $30 per person, or $270 for groups reserving a table for 10.

Tickets can be acquired by contacting Vernia Fletcher at 410-651-6102 during weekday business hours.

Ticket sale proceeds will support deserving students who need help paying their college expenses. The breakfast theme is "Celebrating our spiritual journey," which reflects the institution's founding 125 years ago as a private prep school started by the Methodist Episcopal Church in Maryland.
